"Dear SPHS Families,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!  The Severna Park High School Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) invites you to join us in helping to keep our Blue Ribbon school a center for excellence for our students, staff, and community.  Our mission is to enhance the educational opportunities and facilities for students that are not provided in the county school budget. Our primary focus is to help positively impact and guide students at SPHS. To achieve this goal we have partnered with the school Counseling Center to support the S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Actions Responsibly) program. S.T.A.R. funds whole school assemblies, community programs with speakers and S.T.A.R. week which includes special activities for the students.

Last year, your membership donations supported over $20,000 of significant contributions to SPHS. These included:
•   Technology (Smart Boards, Document Cameras) $12,000  •   Facility Improvements (Landscaping Maintenance) $3,700  •   Student Programs and Clubs (Scrabble Club) $2000  •   The STAR Program $1400  •   College Career Center materials $1,000

NOTE: Our PTSO membership drive will be our only fundraiser this year!  So please submit your paid membership today.  For over 10 years our Annual Fun Run served as our major fundraiser.  However, this year we will not be hosting the Fun Run due to its decline in participants and income.

NEW THIS YEAR!  We are offering an online payment option for membership in addition to checks and cash.  We have set up our PTSO account on www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com <http://www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com/>  so parents have an additional option for payment.  It is quick and easy, and the company charges only a nominal fee for this service.

We also encourage you to take advantage of the many volunteer activities, including the Greeter Table, School Store and Hospitality. Please see the attached form for those and other opportunities.
Now, more than ever, SPHS needs your support.  What can you do?

Join the PTSO and pay your membership dues. Membership form attached or go online to  www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com <http://www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com/>

 Volunteer (Volunteer form attached)

Attend the monthly PTSO meetings. Everyone is welcome and parent feedback inspires change.

Every contribution whether money or time, helps us make a difference!  Please support your PTSO this year through your membership dues and volunteer time, as the students and staff count on our support through the entire school year.

Let's help keep SPHS, a Blue Ribbon school, going strong!

Luanne Kerrigan
PTSO President"
