The Special Education Department assists students with documented handicaps to be successful in the least restrictive environment. Using a collaborative teaching model, the special education teachers aid regular education teachers with modifications to instruction allowing special education students to prosper from the regular county curriculum. For students who require more in-depth interventions, self-contained class instruction provides greater personalized instruction in a curriculum that mirrors the regular county curriculum as closely as possible. The Intensity Five program provides students with the most severe disabilities on-site vocational training with teacher assistance at local businesses. For more information, see the AACPS Special Education web site.
